The Boothbay Region Health Center’s goal is keep each of you in optimal health, no matter what your current circumstances. We want to keep you healthy and well; not just treat you when you are sick or injured. Here are some stories of how we have helped local patients this year:
- A 76-year old male patient, recently diagnosed with dementia, has lost his ability to drive. Physician’s Assistant Andy Zuber sees the patient with all home visits to meet his health care needs. The front office works with the Community Navigator to meet his other transportation needs. The office staff have used their own vehicles to bring and pick him up from specialists’ office visits.

- A young family, with two little girls, who use another doctor for their primary care, uses the Health Center for their same day acute illness care because we offer a 30% discount for paying for visits the day of service. This helps the family receive needed care conveniently without breaking the bank, because they don’t have insurance.

- A local lobsterman was diagnosed with a severe heart condition, which was the result of chronic Lyme disease. The Health Center set him up with office and in-home infusion treatment so that he did not have to remain in the hospital.

- A special needs young woman who was seeking birth control options, was seen by Family Nurse Practitioner and Family Planning specialist, Susan Lord. Together, they decided on a form of birth control. It was ordered through the office and placed by Susan, giving the patient and her family peace of mind.

- A retiree in her 70’s, one of whose parents had succumbed to Alzheimer’s disease and the other who had dementia, was frightened by her inability to remember names she used to be able to recall with no problems, and was worried because she was getting lost when driving to once-familiar places. She enrolled in Dr. Teel’s Reverse Cognitive Decline Research Study, changed her diet, increased exercising, and devotes 30 minutes/day to online brain training. Her memory has improved, she is no longer getting lost, and she is less fearful about succumbing to Alzheimer’s.
