Boothbay Health Center Receives $50K in Matching Grants

May 3, 2022

As of May 1, anyone who donates funds to support our non-profit community health center by May 31st, will have their donation doubled! A group of 20 patients and supporters have raised and pledged up to $50,000 in matching grants. “We really value having this wonderful, convenient and affordable Community Health Center right here in Boothbay Harbor in the Meadow Mall. We want to ensure that our Health Center can afford to attract and retain top-notch medical staff,” said Southport resident, Maureen Kinsey.

Many of these donors are members of the Health Center’s groundbreaking research program to reverse Alzheimer’s disease. Led by Dr. Allan S. Teel, this Reduce Cognitive Decline lifestyle change program and participatory research study is now in its 4th year, with over 40 local participants. These patients value the special coaching they’re receiving to help them stay vital and mentally alert as they age, but they also realize how critical a service it is to have adequate local family health care for everyone in our community. Since opening its doors in 2018, the Health Center has grown from 778 patients to over 3600–demonstrating the need for easy to access, affordable, primary care on the Boothbay peninsula.

Donations should be addressed to BRHC or Boothbay Region Health Center and sent to or dropped off at 185 Townsend Ave., Suite R, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538. You can also call (207) 633-1075 to make a credit card donation by phone, or donate online at https://boothbayhealthcare.org/how-to-donate/

Join Our Brain Health Research Program

We now have over 110 patients enrolled in a ground-breaking research study designed to reverse or at least slow down cognitive decline. This research study is in its fourth full year and we are seeing positive, objectively measurable results. Four patients who have been in the program for over two years have had Volumetric MRIs […]

As a community we can:

1. Take local control of our primary health service.

2. Establish a patient-driven primary care practice model

3. Increase access and use primary health care services appropriately.

4. Make both individual and community-wide choices that will result in improved health status.

1. Get a higher percentage of the population into an ongoing relationship with a primary care provider.

2. Reduce perhaps by half the number of unnecessary Emergency Department and Urgent Care visits.

3. Achieve a demonstrable improvement in the health status of the community.
