Drawn to Maine by its ocean and mountains, Dorie began her nursing career in critical care, gaining experience in Maine and around the country, including at UCLA Medical Center, Stanford Hospital, and Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
She went on to earn a Master of Science in Nursing and become a Family Nurse Practitioner, beginning her primary care practice at Pen Bay Internal Medicine. For the past 15 years, she has provided primary care to the island communities of North Haven and Islesboro.
Dorie values the unique opportunity that community-supported health centers provide to deliver thoughtful, personalized care. As she puts it, “I found that providing care in town-supported clinics allowed me more time to optimize the quality of care essential to preventing adverse health outcomes and detecting disease before it causes illness through timely access, assessment, education, and health screenings.”
Dorie served as Medical Director of the Islesboro Health Center and helped lead the development of its new state-of-the-art facility. Having recently relocated to the Boothbay area, she is excited to bring her experience and commitment to community-based primary care to the Boothbay Region Health Center.
Dorie believes her greatest strengths are “listening and relating to my patients, performing a thorough assessment, and developing an appropriate diagnosis and treatment plan.” She looks forward to building lasting relationships with patients and helping them achieve good lifelong health.
Dr. Allan “Chip” Teel has been practicing family medicine for more than 40 years, providing dedicated primary care to generations of patients in the Boothbay Region and surrounding communities. He brings broad clinical experience and a strong commitment to personalized, interactive patient care.
Chip believes that a meaningful relationship between patient and provider is at the heart of good primary care. He takes the time to listen, understand each patient’s concerns, and work together to develop an appropriate plan for maintaining and improving health.
In recent years, Chip has developed a particular interest in Brain Health, promoting strategies that may help maintain cognitive health and reduce the risk or delay the onset of dementia.
As Chip relates, “I am a strong advocate for the critical role of primary care services in a fully functional healthcare system.”
